3D printing

« Back to Glossary Index

3D printing is a process in which a physical model is created from a digital template (3D model) using a 3D printer.

It is an additive process meaning that the material is added, unlike CNC machines, where the material is removed from an entire block so that only the desired shape remains.

The object is formed layer by layer. The printer melts a thin strip of plastic material until it forms the desired shape. It’s pretty simple science.
